CGFD Responds to Carbon Monoxide Incident

On 1-26-2026 Cedar Grove Firefighters we called to a Laura Drive residence for an activated carbon monoxide alarm. Firefighters discovered snow had blocked the furnace vents and carbon monoxide was being drawn back into the residence activating the alarms.

Safety Note: Some furnaces have Direct venting systems. Its a sealed combustion process that pulls outside air for combustion and vents all combustion byproducts directly outdoors. Unlike traditional models exhausting via a chimney. Typical configurations include two separate vent pipes (one for intake, one for exhaust) or a concentric vent pipe. Homeowners need to keep the exterior vent pipe terminations clear of snow buildup and protected from blockages.
