Cedar Grove Firefighters responded to Pilgrim Court on the report of a natural gas leak in the roadway. Upon arrival firefighters found a large gas leak near the curb and PSE&G already on scene dealing with a power outage as well. The area was kept clear and nearby residences were evacuated. When safe PSE&G took charge of the scene making repairs to the area utilities, fire units cleared.
Cedar Grove Firefighter responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash in front of 589 Route 23 the Major Hardware Store. Upon arrival firefighters found the vehicle against a utility pole and a debris strewn scene. Firefighters cleaned up a minor fluid spill along with a fire hydrant, decorative tree and planter that were struck by the vehicle. Cedar Grove Police are investigating the incident.
Cedar Grove Firefighters responded to the scene of a utility pole fire on Grove Avenue. The fire caused a brief power outage and traffic signals to go out. PSE&G Lineman arrived and extinguished the fire with the assistance of firefighters.
Cedar Grove Firefighters along with Police and EMS responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash at the entrance to the CVS Store 387 Route 23. Firefighters cleaned up debris and a minor fluid spill from the roadway. No serious injuries were reported.
Cedar Grove Firefighters responded to Robin Lane on the report of a truck on fire. Upon arrival the fire had been extinguished by the workers and the Cedar Grove Police. Further checks confirmed the fire was out. There was some minor damage to the truck.
Cedar Grove Firefighters responded to the scene of a three car motor vehicle crash. Several injuries were reported and one person was transported to the hospital. Firefighters assisted the Cedar Grove Ambulance and Rescue Squad and cleaned up a minor spill in the roadway.
Cedar Grove Firefighters along with Cedar Grove Police and Cedar Grove Ambulance Rescue Squad responded to an area of the Peckman River where swimmers reported a drowning. Attempts to locate the submerged swimmer by initial rescuers were negative. Lyndhurst Fire Departments Dive Team was special called to the scene. A Lyndhurst Driver located the victim and he was transported to Saint Joseph's Hospital Paterson. He would later be pronounced dead. Cedar Grove was assisted by Essex County Fire, North Caldwell, West Caldwell, Verona and Newark Fire Departments.
Cedar Grove Firefighters responded to the scene of a wire fire. Upon arrival firefighters found the tree that had brought down a wire, had also struck a vehicle as it drove on Grove Ave. No injuries were reported.
Cedar Grove Firefighters responded to a report of a car fire at the intersection of Route 23 and Stevens Ave. Upon the departments arrival the fire was out. Apparently when the disabled vehicles transmission overheated it caused a small fire in the engine area. Firefighter cleaned up a minor spill and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
