Firefighters responded to an Eileen Drive Residence on the report of a heavy smoke condition in the house.  Firefighters discovered that the malfunctioning fire place flu had caused the house to fill with smoke from a fire place fire. Firefighters conducted checks for extension and removed the smoke and carbon monoxide.  No injuries were reported.

Firefighters responded to a 36 Steven Avenue the Meadowbrook Garden Apartments on the report of an unknown fire.The fire was out upon arrival however fire department units conducted checks for extension and removed smoke from the apartment.  The fire caused some minor damage to the apartment and furniture. No injuries were reported.

The Cedar Grove Fire Department responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash on East Lindsley Road near Route 23. The crash involved five vehicles with one of the vehicle rolled onto its side. Firefighters cleaned up debris and a minor fluid spill from the roadway. No Injuries were reported.

February 21st 2014 CG Firefighters Respond To Senior Complex

On February 21st 2014 Cedar Grove Firefighters responded to 100 Cedar Ridge Drive, The Senior Citizen Complex, initially for activated fire alarm. Upon arrival firefighters found a seized electrical motor that had caused a minor smoke condition. The motor was secured and the smoke was vented from the building. No one was injured.

Digging Out! Removal of snow from around fire hydrants.

After snow storms, when needed, members of the Cedar Grove Volunteer Fire Department are detailed out to remove snow from hydrants.  Although the Cedar Grove Township Ordinance requires "All fire hydrants on private property which may become covered by snow shall have such snow removed within 12 hours after the snow ceases to fall in order to enable the Fire Department to locate said fire hydrant." With over 525 hydrants in the township fire fighters cannot clear them all. Chief James Zaccaria asks residents to clear snow from hydrants located on or near their properties. Its a matter of, when there is a fire, precious time can be lost locating and clearing a fire hydrant

Fire broke out on the third floor of a building at 80 George Street in Paterson NJ about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday and quickly spread. Cedar Grove Firefighters spent overnight covering Paterson's "South Side" Getty Ave Fire House with Montclair, and Bloomfield Firefighters while Paterson and area Passaic County Firefighter’s fought to control the blaze. Flames could be seen from state Route 80.

At approximately 8:05 a.m. Friday, Cedar Grove Firefighters backed up the Caldwell Fire Department at the scene of a house fire on Park Terrace. At one point flames leaped from the 2nd floor. The Caldwell and West Caldwell Firefighters had made a quick knock down and the fire was put out as Cedar Grove Arrived.

January 23rd 2014 Cedar Grove Fire Responds Mutual Aid to Caldwell House Fire

Cedar Grove Fire Department assisted Caldwell Firefighters at the scene of a house fire. The fire was in the three-level home on Gould Ave. Firefighters struggled to prevent the blaze from spreading to neighboring homes just a few feet away. Cedar Grove Firefighters were assigned to the "B" side exposure building.The two homes on both sides of the original fire structure were damaged by some fire, smoke and water damage. The original multifamily structure's roof eventually collapsed as it became engulfed in flames. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

January 18th 2014 Out Going Chief Tower's Dinner

On January 18th, 2014 the Cedar Grove Fire Department held its dinner event for the outgoing Department Fire Chief Michael Tower. Ex. Chief Tower served 2 years each in the 1st Deputy, 2nd Deputy and Chiefs positions. Ex. Chief Tower was presented with a black firefighter’s helmet, his mounted chief’s helmet shield and chest badge. Ex. Chief Tower will make good use of the black firefighter’s helmet when he returns to the rank and file as a line firefighter in Center Fire Company #1 where he has served for over 25 years. Numerous members received service awards that evening. The presenters were Chief James Zaccaria, 1st Deputy Chief John Bannon, 2nd Deputy Chief Dave Shaulis, and Department President Timothy Donlon.
