September 14th 2015 CGFD Responds to Gas Leak at the VFW

Cedar Grove Firefighter responded to a ruptured gas line at the site of the Old VFW Post 6255 at 970 Pompton Avenue. The leak was accidently caused by the demolition contactor and caused police to close that area of Pompton Avenue. No injuries were reported.

August 30th 2015 CGFD Responds to Car Fire

Cedar Gove Firefighters responded to the rear parking lot of 100 Cedar Ridge Drive for numerous 911 reports of a vehicle on fire. Upon arrival a unoccupied vehicle was on fire.  Firefighters quickly extinguished and overhauled the fire. Cedar Grove Ambulance and Rescue Squad, C.G.A.R.S., arrived on scene. The vehicle owner was transported to Mountainside Hospital.

August 23rd 2015 CGFD Responds For a Smoke Condtion

Firefighter were called to the Super Foodtown Store when a large amount of black smoke was seen coming from the the roof. Checks revealed that the smoke was caused when employees were burning off the grill in the deil area. The smoke from the grill was then vented out of the building causing the condition. The grill was left to burn clean.

August 17th 2015 Mutual Aid to Otsego Rd. Verona

Cedar Grove Firefighters assisted Verona Firefighters at the scene of a house fire on Ostego Rd.  Upon arrival firefighters found smoke emanating from the second floor of the residence. Checks revealed that there was fire in the walls. Handlines were stretched and the fire was extinguished. No injuries were reported.

August 4th 2015 CGFD Responds to Brush Fire

Cedar Grove Firefighters responded to a large brush fire on the grounds of the Old Essex County Hospital Center. The fire was caused by a downed primary power wire. Public Service Electric responded. Once the power was shut down the fire was extinguished. Firefighters overhauled the fire with chainsaws and hand lines. No injuries were reported.

July 25th 2015 CGFD Responds Mutual Aid to Montclair

A three-alarm fire ripped through a four-story building at 192 Claremont Avenue around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday in Montclair. The fire extended from the second floor, through to the third floor, to the fourth before firefighters could get it under control. Belleville, Paterson, Caldwell, East Orange, Cedar Grove, Livingston, Nutley and Bloomfield were called to the scene to assist.

June 6th 2015 CGFD Responds Mutual Aid to Verona

At approximately 11:14 am Cedar Grove Firefighters assisted Verona Firefighters at the scene of a house fire on Nassau Road. Cedar Grove Firefighters backed up Verona stretching hand lines and overhauling the fire.

June 1st 2015 CGFD Responds to Pompton Avenue Residence

Cedar Grove Firefighters responded on the report of a smoke detector sounding from a Pompton Avenue Residence. Firefighters and Police found the odor of something burning coming from the residence. Check revealed that that no one was home. Firefighters may a passive entry through a second floor window. Once inside they found unattended cooking. There was no fire damage and no injuries reported.
