After snow storms, when needed, members of the Cedar Grove Volunteer Fire Department are detailed out to remove snow from hydrants. With over 525 hydrants in the township fire fighters cannot clear them all. Chief James Zaccaria asks residents to clear snow from hydrants located on or near their properties. Its a matter of, when there is a fire, precious time can be lost locating and clearing a fire hydrant
Cedar Grove Firefighters responded to the Bank of America on the report of an odor of something burning. Firefighters located a malfunctioning light ballast in the foyer.
Cedar Grove Firefighters responded to the South End School on the report of smoke in a classroom. The school was evacuated. Firefighters located a malfunctioning heating unit. No damaged or injuries were reported.
Cedar Grove Firefighters responded to the basement of a Carlson Parkway Residence on the report of a dryer fire. Firefighters overhauled the fire and vented the smoke. No injuries were reported.
Cedar Grove Firefighter along with Police and EMS responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 23 and East Bradford Avenue. Firefighters assisted Cedar Grove Rescue Squad Members at the scene and cleaned up a minor fluid spill. Two people where taken to the hospital. The crash is under investigated by The Cedar Grove Police.
Members of Cedar Grove Fire Dept. stoodby at Belleville's Franklin Ave Fire House while Belleville Firefighters battled a multiple alarm fire. Above members responded to a water emergency.
On November 23, 2014 at approximately 4:15 in the morning Cedar Grove Firefighters were dispatched to a house fire on Myrtle Ave. In route to the fire firefighters were notified that someone was still inside the home. Upon arrival of the fire department units the resident had managed to find his way out of the burning building. Firefighters extinguished the fire shortly. Cedar Grove was assisted at the scene by Verona, and Little Falls Fire Departments. Montclair and North Caldwell provided coverage. Cedar Grove Police and Essex County Arson Unit are investigating the cause. The resident was transported to the hospital.
