Stolen Car Fire

On August 22nd 2023 at 0118 hours Cedar Grove Firefighters extinguished a reported stolen car burning in the Normal Ave Mills Reservation Parking Lot.

CGFD Attends Newark Fire Dept. Funerals

Cedar Grove Firefighters along with hundreds of people turned out for the funerals of Newark Firefighters Wayne “Bear” Brooks Jr. and Augusto “Augie” Acabou. The two firefighters were killed after they were trapped in a July 5th fire aboard the Grand Costa D’Avorio, a cargo ship carrying vehicles that was docked in Port Newark. Our hope and prayers are with the families of the firefighters and the members of the Newark Fire Dept.

CGFD Responds to Drowning

On July 8th 2023 Cedar Grove Firefighter responded to the the area known as “Devils Hole” on the report of a drowning. Mutual aid was requested from the Bergen County Scuba Team. Lyndhurst and Wallington Fire Departments responded. A victim was quickly located, treated at the scene then transported to an area hospital. The subjects condition is unknown at this time.

CGFD Responds Mutual Aid to North Bergen

On 4-12-2023 at 1am Cedar Grove Firefighters responded as part of an Essex County Task Force to back fill the 16th Street Fire House in North Bergen. Cedar Grove provided coverage while North Hudson Firefighters battel two multi alarm blazes in Union City and Weehawken.

CGFD Responds to Brush Fire

On April 9th 2023 Cedar Grove Firefighters responded to Mills Reservation for a large brush fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire without incident with the assistance of Cedar Grove Public Works. Public Works provided additional chain saws and shuttled water to the Departments Brush Truck 75.

New Firefighter Training

Probationary Firefighters Kyle Hill and Joseph Lombardi receive their initial firefighter training at the Passaic County Public Safety Academy. The course is a 200-hour introductory level progressive program.  This level of training introduces the novice firefighter to the basics of nationally recognized firefighting techniques.  Methods of instruction will include classroom theory, at-home online learning, as well as skill oriented “hands on” drill sessions. 

The course meets the performance objectives of the N.F.P.A. standard 1001 and N.J.A.C. 5:73 4.3 standard, which will allow a firefighter to perform firefighting under direct supervision.  All students will receive ICS 100, 200, NIMS 700, Right to Know and Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operational Levels of training as required by N.J.A.C. 5:75-6.1. Students will receive IFSAC and ProBoard Certification upon completion of all classes and sessions.

CGFD Responds To Reported Truck Fire

March 21st 2023 Firefighters responded on the report of a truck fire on Rutgers Avenue. The fire had been extinguished by the driver. When firefighters arrived they were able to isolated the trucks electrical system.
