Cedar Grove Firefighters responded on the report of a smoke detector sounding from a Pompton Avenue Residence. Firefighters and Police found the odor of something burning coming from the residence. Check revealed that that no one was home. Firefighters may a passive entry through a second floor window. Once inside they found unattended cooking. There was no fire damage and no injuries reported.

May 14th 2015 CGFD responds to brush fire.
Cedar Grove Fire Firefighters responded to the area of 165 Cedar St. on the report of a brush fire. Upon arrival found a number of large shrubs burning. The fire was extinguished quickly. The fire was caused accidently by a discarded cigarette. No injuries were reported.
May 11th 2015 CGFD responds to apartment fire.
On 05/11/2015 at approximately 05:17 Cedar Grove Fire Department responded to 1083 Route 23 on a report of a fire in a second floor apartment. The first arriving police officers initiated the evacuation of the building. Upon arrival firefighters were met by heavy smoke emanating from multiple windows on the second floor. Searches were conducted and hose lines stretched. The fire was located in apartment 2 A. The fire was quickly extinguished, overhauled, and the building subsequently vented. No injuries were reported. The Cedar Grove Police and Essex County Arson unit are investigating the cause. The fire appears to be accidental.
May 8th 2015 CGFD responds to dyer fire.
At 12:30 Am Cedar Grove Firefighters responded to 536 Ridge Road, The Waterview Nursing Home, on an activated fire alarm. Upon arrival firefighters found a well involved dryer fire in the basement laundry room. Firefighters forced entry to the laundry room area. The fire was extinguished quickly and the smoke was vented from the building. A number of the residents were moved to uninvolved areas of the building. No injuries were reported. The Cedar Grove Police are investigating.
May 8th 2015 CGFD Responds to Motor Vehicle Crash
Cedar Grove Firefighters responded to a two car motor vehicle crash near the intersection of Route 23 and Ozone Ave. Firefighters secured the vehicles and clean up a minor fluid spill in the roadway.
March 24th 2015 CGFD Responds Car Fire
Cedar Grove Firefighters Responded to a Fairview Avenue Residence on the report of a fully involved vehicle fire. Upon arrival firefighters found a 2012 pickup truck fully involved in fire. Responders were confronted with several explosions when propane cylinders in the bed of the truck BLEVED. A BLEVE is a boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion. It is caused by the rupture of a vessel, in this case a propane hand torch cylinders, containing a pressurized liquid being brought above its boiling point.The cause of the fire was accidental, no injuries were reported.
March 22nd 2015 Ring Extrication
Cedar Grove Firefighters were called to a township residence on the report of a individual with a ring stuck on her finger. After attempting to remove the ring with some less intrusive methods it was determined that the ring would have to cut from the finger. Firefighter cut the ring without further incident or injury.
February 27th 2015 CGFD Responds to Smoke Condition
Cedar Grove Firefighters responded to the report of smoke inside a house. Firefighters located a small lint fire in a dryer on the first floor. The fire was confined to the dryer. No injures were reported.
February 25th 2015 CGFD Responds to Ring Extrication
Cedar Grove Firefighters responded for a resident with a ring stuck on her finger. The ring had been accidently crushed onto the finger by a car door. Firefighters use recently acquired equipment and training to remove the ring without further incident.
February 21st 2015 CGFD Responds to Mulch Pile Fire
Cedar Grove Firefighters Responded to the report of smoke in the area of a Chestnut Court residence. While checking the area Cedar Grove Police Officers located a mulch pile fire at the Caputo Tree Service Yard on Village Park Road. The mulch fire was found to be the source of the smoke of smoke. Firefighters extinguished the fire with the assistance of on site heavy equipment.
